STORYLINE:
A container ship named AMNAH and flying the Comoros flag tilted on its side at Ambarli port in Türkiye's Istanbul city, the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
Immediate measures were taken to evacuate the people on board, and the authorities swiftly initiated environmental protection efforts, according to the statement.
Emergency response teams rescued 10 crew members, while five others swam to shore, the local Milliyet newspaper reported. One individual sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
To prevent environmental damage, floating barriers were placed around the vessel to contain any potential pollution. The ministry confirmed that cleanup operations and salvage efforts are ongoing under the coordination of the port administration.
