Residents panicked after seeing a cheetah wandering the streets in India.

Footage captured by a passenger in an oncming car shows the big cat roaming around Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh, on Wednesday, December 25.

Locals claim that after a leisurely walk, the wild animal even managed to catch a street dog.

Reports say the cheetah, named Vayu, escaped from Kuno National Park, located near Sheopur, during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, making its way into the city's residential area.

Authorities said officials from the Kuno Forest Division had released two cheetahs, Agni and Vayu, into the open forest area of Kuno National Park on December 4, marking International Cheetah Day.

A senior National Tiger Conservation Authority official said: 'Agni is now back in the forest and Vayu who was also released in the wild is very close to its enclosure. These animals are radio-collared and GPS-tagged. So we are completely in know of their whereabouts.'

The cheetah is a large, spotted cat known for its incredible speed. It can reach 60-70 miles per hour in short bursts, making it the fastest land animal.
