Four Chinese tourists were arrested for allegedly running a call centre scam in Thailand.

The suspects, identified by police as Wang, 32, Huang, 31, Xiong, 29, and Wang, 29, were nabbed at a condominium in the Bang Na Tai area of Bangkok on December 26.

Police raided the building amid a crackdown on Chinese-run crime gangs across Thailand.

Police Major General Teeradej Thumsutee, commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Investigation Division, said: 'Three suspects denied the charges and claimed they were in Thailand as tourists. However, during the interrogation, we did not find any photos of them visiting any tourist attractions.

‘We found they worked in online gambling but were unemployed in China. They claimed they ran away from the police during the raid because they were scared.'

The raid is part of an expanded investigation into call centre gangs in Thailand. On December 25, police raided two condos in Bangkok and arrested Chinese suspect Minghong Tan, 19, and his Chinese girlfriend over links to scam operations.

Further investigations led to searches at eight more condominiums.

Police said they were tracking down the Chinese bosses behind the syndicate.
