This is the amusing moment a wild elephant dipped his trunk into a hotel swimming pool.

Footage shows the jumbo, named Plai Kae, standing by a villa and enjoying the refreshing water.

Onlookers watched him splashing the cool liquid at the Phu Fah Suay housing project near Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on December 1.

Locals who were concerned the beast could venture into nearby properties, promptly contacted the Khao Yai Elephant Friends Rescue Team to handle the animal.

Authorities believe that Plai Kae was searching for food and took the chance to cool off.

The team safely guided the elephant out of the residential area and back into the woodland of the national park.

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.

The main threats to wild elephants in Thailand are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and conflict with humans.
