This is the amusing moment pet hamster 'engineer' built its own tower from shredded papers.

The adorable talented rodent piled pieces of small torn papers inside its cone-shaped plastic house inside its enclosure in Beijing, China on October 26.

Footage shows the woman lifting the miniature house revealing the hamster surrounded by its self-made nest, seemingly awakened by its owner.

Ms Li said: 'It doesn't like to come out during the day and prefers to sleep in its nests. 

'They'll carry soft cotton back to their nests to make it extra cozy. The little one stays all puffed up inside the nest, and from the outside, you can see its tiny house wobbling—it's impossible not to be curious. 

'I specifically chose this bottomless little house so I could peek at it anytime. But I didn't expect it to dig out all the papers at the bottom to build itself a fortress and then sleep on top of it. It's just too adorable.'

In the wild, hamsters live in burrows, so building a nest is a natural behavior to feel hidden and safe.

They actively gather materials like shredded paper or wood shavings to create a soft and comfortable sleeping area within their nest.
