On the evening of January 1, at Wanda Plaza in Leshan, Sichuan Province, an accident occurred during a fire pot performance when the performer’s red robe was ignited by flying sparks, causing injuries to his lower leg.

Video footage shows the performer standing in an open area of the plaza, holding a specially designed iron mesh filled with burning charcoal. By shaking the mesh, he created dazzling sparks, delivering a spectacular visual display for the audience.

About 30 seconds into the performance, sparks suddenly set the performer’s robe on fire. Initially, the performer didn’t notice as the flames were small and quick.

Around 10 seconds later, the performer realized his robe was burning. He immediately dropped the iron mesh and began running and jumping around the plaza in an attempt to extinguish the flames. He eventually removed the burning robe, but the flames had spread to his pant leg.

On-site staff responded quickly, using a fire extinguisher to put out the fire and providing initial burn treatment to the performer.

According to staff at Leshan Wanda Plaza, the performer sustained burns to his lower leg after his pant leg caught fire. He was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, and thanks to the swift response, his injuries were not serious.

The fire pot performance is a traditional folk art originating from Hutian Town, Xiangxiang City, Hunan Province, with a history of over 150 years. Performers, typically dressed in fire-resistant clothing, place burning charcoal in iron mesh and shake it to create sparks, forming the effect of a "fire tree and silver flowers." The performance symbolizes warding off illness, avoiding misfortune, and praying for peace.
