This is the shocking moment a car suddenly burst into flames at a petrol station, causing staff and customers to panic and flee for their lives in Argentina.

CCTV footage shows the vehicle being worked on when, without warning, an explosion erupted beneath the car at a Shell petrol station in Concepcion del Uruguay, Entre Rios Province.

Local media reported that the auto was being repaired because the driver had mistakenly put the wrong type of fuel into the petrol tank.

The flames rapidly spread, and the entire vehicle, reportedly a Volkswagen Passat, was engulfed in fire.

Customers and staff ran in every direction, with one man seen attempting to drive away, starting his engine in an apparent effort to distance himself from the blaze.

However, before he could leave, a worker signalled that they were about to use a fire extinguisher on the burning car, prompting him to exit and move back quickly.

The workers then successfully used the extinguishers to put out the fire.

No injuries were reported on Tuesday, July 22.
