Tourists clung onto boats as they were rocked by huge swells in Thailand.

Dozens of holidaymakers defied weather warnings as they queued to board wooden longtail vessels on Koh Phi Phi island in Krabi province, on January 11.

Video shows the tourists battling to steady themselves as their boats swayed in the choppy waters of Loh Sama Bay.

Ken Pawaret, a conservationist at the Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, said: ‘Tourists should always check the weather forecast before travelling.'

He added that there were no injuries or casualties reported despite the poor weather.

The Thai Meteorological Agency reported that the northeast monsoon was prevailing over the Gulf of Thailand, southern Thailand, and the Andaman Sea. The weather system was forecasted to churn up waves up to 10ft until January 18.
