Horrific footage shows a mouse running around a "disgusting" hospital ward as patients say the building is infested with rodents."

Daniel Hendron, 32, filmed a large adult mouse scurrying under his bed at Walsall Manor Hospital in the early hours of Monday (20/1).

The dad-of-three says patients are kept awake by the mice "screeching" at each other at night while some nurses are too scared to step foot on the ward."

When the builder complained to hospital staff, he claims nurses told him they reported a mice infestation as far back as November last year.

Daniel, who has been in the hospital with a leg infection since January 13, said: "The mice are everywhere. I've got an open wound, how can this be a safe or hygienic place for me?"

"There are at least five to six mice at any one time. They come through the radiators and through holes in the walls. It's hell."

"It's normally anytime from 10pm onwards. I can't even walk to he toilet, I have to wee in a pot because I don't want a mouse running up my leg."

"I asked the staff to spray and mop the floor, but it hasn't made any difference. They mice keep coming back."

"Another nurse said there was a mouse on another ward so it's not just this ward that is infested. Apparently the hospital have had mouse reports since November."

"The mice seem to have taken a shine to me and keep coming under my bed."

"I'm exhausted because it's impossible to get any sleep. I'm worried I'll wake up and find a mouse chewing my leg. "

"They are so loud they screech at night. "

"I can't believe a UK hospital in the 21st century is infested with mice and patients have to live it with."

"I don't sleep next to mice and when I've a leg infected, I expect a clean ward."

Daniel said he has repeatedly told staff about the mice and has posted regular videos on Facebook showing them running around patients' beds and under medical equipment.

He added: "The staff know about the problem but they seem happy to keep infected patients on a ward full of mice."

"At night the mice come out to play. We're not talking one, two or three mice, they are running round everywhere."

"Staff are that scared they don't come to you to bring you medication."

"Some of the nurses stand in the foyer of the ward and we have to move to them to get the medicine ourselves."

"The nurses are so scared of being in the ward for too long they don't shut the curtains around your bay when you want the toilet. "

"Instead they grab people's crutches or walking frames to try and pull the curtain shut because they're too scared to be in there."

Daniel said he had begged the nurses to move him to a different ward but they "say there's nothing they can do"."

He added: "Staff say they have been reporting a mouse problem before Christmas but it's out of their hands. How can that be right?"

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust apologised for any distress caused.

A spokesperson said: "Pest control measures in place, alongside rigorous infection "
prevention and control processes.

"Our teams have dealt with this issue and, in addition, we have increased cleaning in the affected areas as well as checked for any potential access holes."
