Passing jogger talks down distressed man from bridge
A heroic passing jogger talked down a distressed man from jumping off a bridge.
The woman was out for her daily run when she spotted the man on the edge of the Clark Memorial Bridge in Louisville, Kentucky, on January 26, around 5 pm, and immediately took action to prevent him from leaping.
Reports said the quick-thinking passerby physically intervened, stopping him once before the police arrived.
Dramatic footage shows the runner appearing to negotiate with the man climbing onto the bridge railings.
Detective Willis was the first officer to arrive. As soon as he did, the man tried again to jump. Willis and the jogger fought to restrain the man and pull him back from the ledge.
In the video, the officer asks the woman to 'press the button' on his radio. With both hands occupied in the struggle, the button served as a distress call, notifying dispatch to send additional help.
Together, they managed to pull the man safely back over the railing and place him in handcuffs for his safety.
The man was transported to the hospital for further treatment, and no injuries were reported.
In September last year, Rock and Roll legend Jon Bon Jovi talked a distressed woman down from a bridge in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Grammy award winner was reportedly filming a music video on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge overlooking the Cumberland River when he and his production team noticed the lady standing on the ledge on September 10.
CCTV footage shows the woman in a blue shirt staring down at the river below as the singer and a production assistant carefully sidled up to her.
After a brief talk, the woman made an about-face and let the pair help her back over the safety railings.
