On January 26, 2025, in the Kara Sea, Russia, a video captured a collision between the Russian nuclear icebreaker 50 Years of Victory and the cargo ship Yamal Krechet. The incident took place while the icebreaker was escorting a cargo vessel along the Northern Sea Route. The 50 Years of Victory collided with the 20,144 dwt Yamal Krechet, which was en route to Ob Bay. The collision resulted in significant damage to the hull of the nuclear icebreaker. The condition of the cargo ship is currently unknown. Despite the damage, the 50 Years of Victory remains seaworthy and continues to operate, as the affected area is not near the nuclear reactor, and the power plant is still functioning normally.
