Australia: Plane Drops Red Retardant as Crews Battle Massive Cumborah Fire
Cumborah, Australia - January 31, 2025 A firefighting aircraft released a wave of red retardant over the Narran Lake Rd Fire as crews worked to contain the blaze, which has burned through 2,870 hectares northwest of Walgett. Ground teams, supported by heavy machinery and aerial operations, reinforced containment lines throughout the day. While no properties are under immediate threat, nearby communities, including the Grawin and Glengarry opal fields, may see and smell smoke. The fire is currently being controlled as efforts continue.
