Over 100 vehicles involved in SHOCKING pile-up caused by thick fog in eastern China
Around 10 a.m. on February 1, a severe multi-vehicle pile-up occurred on the Taihui Expressway in Puyang, Henan Province, during the peak travel period for the Spring Festival. Over a hundred vehicles were involved, with some suffering extensive damage.
According to reports, the accident was triggered by icy and slippery road conditions caused by low temperatures and rain mixed with snow. Thick fog further reduced visibility, making it difficult for vehicles to brake in time, resulting in the chain collision.
Eyewitnesses stated that the incident began when two vehicles collided and stopped on the road awaiting assistance. However, subsequent vehicles failed to brake in time, causing a series of rear-end collisions. Inadequate speed reduction and improper use of vehicle lights in low-visibility conditions were also contributing factors.
Following the incident, Henan Highway Police Command Center imposed traffic control measures on parts of the expressway.
As of February 2, the scene had been cleared, and normal traffic resumed. According to official reports, despite the extensive vehicle damage, all drivers and passengers managed to escape in time, and no injuries were reported.
