This is the shocking moment a curious toddler crashes her grandfather's trike into a pond.

The incident occurred outside a rural home in Yueyang, Hunan, China, on Tuesday morning, January 14.

CCTV footage shows the three-year-old girl sitting on the trike as her grandfather, who forgot to remove the key before getting off, appears to instruct her to stay still while another young girl, seemingly her older sister, watches curiously.

As the grandfather steps towards the house, the toddler appears to start the trike, which speeds down a slope into a water-filled rice field.

Her grandfather chases after the vehicle but is unable to stop it before it crashes.

Luckily, he and the girl's father managed to rescue her from the overturned trike within seconds, and she seemed unharmed.

Her mother later said: 'At the age of one, she fell into a field; at three years old, she drove a three-wheeler into a field. Is there anything this little girl won't dare to do? She'll have plenty to reflect on as she grows up.'
