A protester was arrested for allegedly replacing the United States flag with a Mexican at Hart Park in California.

Crystal Aguilar, 24, allegedly cut the chain securing the flagpole and threw the American flag into the mud in Kern County on February 6.

Footage shows Crystal hoisting up Mexico's flag on the pole as seen by a concerned citizen who called authorities to intervene.

Crystal argued with officers as she was being arrested and handcuffed.

She said: 'You're not going to tell me what to do, this is Mexican land mother****er.'

Officers took Crystal into custody. She allegedly resisted and made threats against them.

Police said she was booked into the Lerdo Jail on charges of trespassing, vandalism, resisting arrest, and threatening a peace officer. She is scheduled to appear in court on February 10.

The incident comes amid a wave of protests by liberals who are upset by the crackdown on illegal immigration under the new Trump administration.

On February 5, hundreds of anti-deportation protesters carrying Mexican flags marched through California in opposition to the crackdown.

While most protesters remained peaceful, a small group set off fireworks and engaged in disruptive behaviour. Several officers were reportedly assaulted, and at least five police vehicles sustained damage during the event.

Trump, known for his hardline nationalist and anti-immigrant rhetoric, has promised a sweeping crackdown on undocumented and illegal immigrants in the country.

On his first day of office, he declared a 'national emergency' at the southern border with Mexico.

He has also issued a memo telling the U.S. Agency for International Development to adopt an 'America First' policy, threatening sanctions on staff who refuse to obey.

Dozens of deportation flights have also taken off, sending illegals back to their homeland in handcuffs.
