The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crew saved a birdwatcher with a dislocated shoulder after falling on rocks.

The holidaymaker suffered the injury after slipping on rocky terrain at Hilbre Island, prompting a rescue operation on April 28.

HM Coastguard alerted the crew at 1:03 pm. The volunteer team launched the D-class lifeboat Leonard Pownall within 10 minutes and carefully planned the best route to reach the distressed individual, considering the ebbing tide.

Upon arrival, emergency responders administered immediate care and safely transferred the casualty onto the lifeboat.

He was brought back to the north end of Marine Lake for a smoother transfer before being taken to Arrowe Park Hospital for treatment.

West Kirby Lifeboat Helm, Chris Gatenby, said: 'Thankfully the individual did exactly the right thing in dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard as soon as the accident had happened, which allowed our volunteer crew to respond quickly, provide casualty care, and get the casualty to hospital for treatment.

'Please remember to always carry a means of communication and if you ever find yourself in difficulty, don't hesitate to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We're always here to help.'

The RNLI saves lives at sea through its 24-hour search and rescue services around the UK and Ireland. With 238 lifeboat stations and over 240 lifeguard units across the UK and the Channel Islands, its volunteers are dedicated to maritime safety.
