An Indian Air Force fighter jet crashed in a field.

The Mirage 2000 fighter jet plummeted to the ground during a routine training sortie after encountering a system malfunction in Shivpuri, India, on February 6 at 2:30 pm local time.

Footage shows the wrecked plane in flames, with smoke billowing into the air.

Local media reported that the pilots managed to eject safely before the aircraft crashed.

Witnesses residing near the area immediately called the authorities to extinguish the fire from the wreckage.

Shivpuri Superintendent of Police (SP) Aman Singh Rathore said: 'A team of IAF officials arrived in Shivpuri by helicopter and airlifted the pilots back to the base. Local police, an ambulance, and a fire tender also reached the spot immediately.'
