An F-35 fighter jet crashed in a field in California, with the pilot ejecting safely before impact.

Authorities confirmed the plane crashed near the Naval Air Station Lemoore on Wednesday, July 30, at approximately 6:30 pm.

Footage shows flames and thick black smoke billowing from the aircraft wreckage in open farmland, as emergency crews rushed to the site to tackle the fire.

The US Navy stated that the aircraft was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron VF-125, known as the 'Rough Raiders'. The unit serves as a Fleet Replacement Squadron, responsible for training pilots and aircrew on the F-35 platform.

Officials said the pilot was airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover fully.

A military investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash.

The aircraft, valued at approximately 100 million USD, was the second F-35 to crash this year. In January, an Air Force F-35A went down during a training flight at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. The pilot also ejected safely in that incident.

The F-35 is a fifth-generation stealth fighter and one of the most advanced warplanes in the world, forming a key part of the US military's air power.
