Fishermen caught a 14ft crocodile that had been stalking a village in Indonesia.

A group of anglers reportedly found the reptile in Tondasi Village, North Tiworo District, West Muna Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, on Sunday, February 2.

Residents said the dangerous animal had been preying on their livestock since the previous week, causing fear and disturbance in the area.

Footage shows locals assisting authorities in securing the beast with ropes and cloth around its body and jaws after it was lured with goat innards.

Local media reported the croc had attacked four villagers, two of whom survived without serious injuries.

The creature is now tied up near a sand shelter and will be handed over to the Kendari Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA).

Indonesia has the most crocodile attacks in the world. There were at least 1,000 incidents over the past decade - though many more are believed to have been unreported - resulting in more than 450 fatalities, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

The archipelago is home to 14 types of crocs - with a large population of extremely large and violent estuarine crocodiles that flourish in the region's climate.

Conservationists believe that crocodiles have been driven further inland closer to villages due to overfishing reducing the crocodiles' natural food supplies combined with habitat loss from the development of coastal areas into farms.

With uneducated locals in the developing country still using rivers for bathing and primitive fishing, the deadly combination of factors has led to rising numbers of crocodile attacks.
