Boy, 6, drowns when his hand gets stuck in swimming pool filter
A schoolboy drowned when his hand was sucked into a swimming pool filter in Indonesia.
Bagja Nurjaman, 6, was paddling underwater at the 3ft pool at the ANB Resort and Hotels in the Garut Regency, on February 23.
He began in the children's area before swimming towards his relatives when his arm was sucked into the open pool drain.
The boy's relatives began panicking when they noticed Bagja stuck underwater. They rushed over and tried to yank him over the surface, but failed because of the filter's powerful suction.
Paramedics and firemen were called to the scene when Bagja's mother started screaming hysterically for help.
Harrowing footage shows frantic guests scooping water out of the pool using buckets as firefighters deployed a pump to lower the water level. Bagja was seen whimpering as he lay limp in a relative's arms.
Bagja was given oxygen and rushed to the hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
Iptu Aep Saprudin, acting head of the local water and air police unit, said: 'The victim's hand was caught in the drain. We tried to save him, but it was difficult to lift him because he was trapped.'
The pool has since been closed for safety inspections.
AKP Joko Prihatin, head of criminal investigation of the Garut Police, said the pool owner will be investigated for possible negligence.
He said: 'For the time being, we have questioned several witnesses related to the incident. We are conducting an investigation. We have not concluded anything yet.'
