Goldfish caught slurping up noodles - owner says it's just occasional treat
On 22nd February in Nanchong, Sichuan, Ms. Zhang captured a delightful moment of her Ranchu goldfish eagerly slurping up a noodle.
The video shows the chubby-mouthed Ranchu expertly sucking in a long strand of noodle, seemingly enjoying the taste as it continues to eat one bite after another.
Ms. Zhang explained that she had seen other fish owners feeding noodles to their pets online and decided to give it a try. She cooked six noodles, and her Ranchu ate about half of one. She emphasised that goldfish are omnivorous and that she only offers noodles as an occasional treat, ensuring her fish remains healthy under her care.
The Ranchu goldfish, originally from China but further developed in Japan, is known for its round body, lack of a dorsal fin, and smooth curved back. With its adorable appearance, distinctive wen (head growth), and unique swimming style, it has earned the title of "King of Goldfish" and is highly prized among fish enthusiasts in both Japan and China.
From a biological perspective, Ranchu goldfish, as omnivores, can digest a variety of foods. While noodles are not a natural part of their diet, they can usually process them without issue if given in moderation. However, excessive feeding of non-specialist fish food like noodles may lead to an imbalance in nutrition and potential digestive concerns.
