Coast Guard saves 14 people from sinking boat in the Philippines
The Coast Guard rescued 14 people from a sinking boat in the Philippines.
Officials said the motor banca began listing in rough waters near Balicasag Island, prompting a response from Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Balicasag on February 24.
Authorities said the vessel malfunctioned while en route to Panglao, losing control and sustaining damage that caused it to become partially submerged.
Onboard were 12 passengers, the boat captain, and one crew member.
Footage shows the crew navigating the seas amid large waves and strong currents as they prepare their rescue equipment. One member then jumped into the water and approached the boat.
Rescue personnel transferred the 14 individuals to the awaiting MBCA Nika and Niah Naj. All were reported to be in good condition.
They were turned over to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) Panglao for further assistance.
The motor banca was towed back to Panglao. An initial investigation revealed a mechanical failure as the cause of the incident.
