Footage shows the aftermath of a cinema ceiling collapse during a Captain America screening in Wenatchee, Washington, on February 25.

A moviegoer and his girlfriend were watching Captain America: Brave New World when the century-old building gave way.

Cam Phillips, head of the Wenatchee Valley Fire Department Battalion, said: 'They heard some pops and cracking and the gentleman stood up and took a peek.

'He walked up toward the screen and as he looked up, he shouted 'run'.

'The cinema was originally built in 1919 and was last remodeled in the 1970s.'

The fire chief said that the man's partner was found caught under some of the debris, but was able to break free. She and her boyfriend were not harmed.
