A sandstorm caused chaos on roads in New Mexico.

Drivers were caught in a blinding dust storm along Highway 285 in Dexter on February 4.

Footage shows massive desert winds engulfing the area, reducing visibility to near zero.

Vehicles can be seen scattered across the motorway as emergency responders navigate the treacherous conditions.

The storm triggered multiple accidents across the region, stretching rescue teams to their limits.

Police Chief Powell said: 'Highway 285 remains shut between Roswell and Artesia, with stretches plunged into zero-visibility nightmares. State Road 2 is just as treacherous, especially between Dexter and Hagerman, where drivers can't see a thing.

'If you do not need to be driving, please do not do so. Stay put.'

Warnings have now been extended into the evening, with fierce winds expected to batter the region for days—just another springtime in desert New Mexico.
