This is the astonishing moment a mechanic strutted through a Thai neighbourhood wearing a towering Transformers costume.

Niti Rerngjai, 28, donned the colossal robot suit with glowing red eyes as he trudged across a street in Samut Prakan province, on March 3.

Residents and children watched as the hulking figure made of scrap metal, aluminium sheets, foam, and rubber, stomped in front of their homes.

Niti, a former street musician, said he became a cosplayer after developing vocal problems that forced him to stop performing.

He said: 'When I started having problems with my voice, I turned to cosplaying, which was already something I loved. I first made small robots like Iron Man and continued studying how to make costumes. I learned about what materials to use, how to combine colours, and how to construct everything from the internet and cosplay groups.'

Now, the skilled craftsman takes custom orders for his creations, which can cost around 50,000 Baht (1,150 GBP). However, he said he is selective with the commissions as the process is both costly and time-consuming.

The mech enthusiast said he had previously made costumes of Optimus, Bumblebee, Iron Man, and Mega Godzilla.
