Iran's Navy Commander, Shahram Irani, on Tuesday made clear the Islamic republic's firm rejection of the United States' "maximum pressure" campaign and strong resolve to defend its interests. In response to the Trump administration's recent attempt at curbing Iran's oil exports by intercepting oil tankers at sea, Irani condemned the U.S. government for threatening other countries with hegemonic actions and said that the U.S. actions would not be accepted by any sovereign country. Since taking office, the Trump administration has restored maximum pressure on the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, attempting to deny Iran all paths to a nuclear weapon and counter Iran's influence abroad.
