An engineering student was killed, and his five batchmates were injured in a car crash in India.

The tragic incident occurred when their speeding vehicle lost control and rammed into an electric pole near Neopolis Road in Narsingi, Telangana, on Tuesday, March 11, around 2:30 pm.

A spoke spokesman said: 'The vehicle was speeding when it hit the divider, causing it to climb over before colliding with an electric pole.'

Reports said the 18-year-old driver was killed at the scene. The five injured were rushed to the hospital, with one in critical condition.

All of them were first-year engineering students from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT) in Gandipet and were returning home from school when the accident happened.

Footage shows the severely damaged Suzuki Swift on the roadside, with students' bags on the ground.

Authorities said: 'We are investigating the cause of the crash, including the possibility of alcohol involvement.'
