This is the shocking moment a driver crashes into pedestrians outside shops in India.

Footage shows four locals conversing by the roadside while a grandfather carrying his seven-year-old grandson was walking in the Adarsh Nagar area of Delhi on December 16, around 10 am.

A scooter was also seen heading in the same direction as the two pedestrians when a white Hyundai Santro violently rammed into them.

The car first struck the motorcycle, dragging the rider, before hitting the elderly man and child and crashing into the residents who were chatting.

Bystanders quickly came to their aid, helping the trapped child under the vehicle.

Police said the child was rescued but suffered serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

Authorities reported that the car driver was a 17-year-old boy. He was taken into custody, and the police seized the car.

A case has been registered against the car owner under various sections of the BNSS.

India has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with thousands of fatalities and injuries reported each year.

The poor track record is blamed on unsafe road conditions, reckless driving, inadequate enforcement of traffic laws, and a lack of awareness about road safety.
