The iconic vehicle of Burgh Island has become a beloved sight along the coast.
Used almost daily and is sent across the waves when the tide is in to collect the Burgh Island guests and ferry to the Art Deco hotel.
The Burgh Island sea tractor was originally designed in 1969 by Robert Jackson CBE (a pioneer of the nuclear power station programme in the ’50s) and is the only one of her kind in the world!

In exchange for his work, he was paid with a case of champagne.

Costing around £9,000 to build the first one and the current one the third version is still certainly a Burgh Island celebrity.

While the Burgh Island sea tractor is largely reserved for hotel guests, non-guests can rely on her services to transport them to and from the island’s restaurants, dining rooms and pub.
However, this does require a £2 fee each way.
