Summer storm batters hospital patients in Thailand
This is the dramatic moment a severe summer storm battered hospital patients in Thailand.
Footage shows driving rain slamming into the medical facility in Mueang Surin District, Surin, on March 16.
Panicked staff members initially backed away before rushing to assist ward occupants, who were dampened by the freak weather inside the building.
Thaweesak Buapa, Chief of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office of Surin Province, reported that recent summer storms have damaged houses, schools, and other structures.
In Non Narai District, two sub-districts, five villages, and 57 households were affected. Sangkha District saw damage in one sub-district, one village, and five homes, while in Sanom, one village and 20 families were impacted.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported. Authorities have conducted initial damage assessments and are working to provide assistance as needed.
Officials said the summer storm, which includes thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and lightning, is expected to continue in some areas until Thursday.
The public is advised to exercise caution, and drivers are urged to stay vigilant on the roads.
Thailand has a tropical monsoon climate with a hot, rainy season from May to October, driven by the southwest monsoon winds. Thunderstorms are common during the summer rainy season, sometimes with heavy downpours, gusty winds, and lightning. Major cities like Bangkok can experience urban flooding from the intense rainfall.
