This is the moment a policeman chased a motorcyclist they caught riding on a pavement in Thailand.

Footage shows the law enforcer pursuing the alleged traffic violator along a kerb in the capital Bangkok on March 15.

The cop then rear-ended the suspect, causing him to fall off-balance. The chase continued as the rider - who was also not wearing a helmet - tried to flee across the road.

Onlooker Panusitt Khuenkham said the officers had pulled over the suspect after seeing blood on his face. However, the man reportedly sped away from them.

Local media reported that he was later arrested.

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
