A level crossing rail barrier failure left a hundred beach car park users locked in on a popular beach car park adjoining the South West Coastal footpath overlooking Mounts Bay in Cornwall. hungry toddlers and thirsty dogs found themselves isolated when the park vehicle access was blocked by a failure of the automatic barriers. At least one dentist's appointment was missed and senior citizens were less than amused during the three-hour period. A Cornwall Highways employee, though not responsible for the barrier, managed to liaise with Network Rail by phone and organized an attended escape plan for the locked in vehicles and occupants, pending suitable engineers reaching the scene.
