The resumption of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip on March 18 has left hospitals across the enclave grappling with severe shortages of urgently-needed medical supplies and many wounded people in a stage of despair. Medical staff at Mamadani Hospital in Gaza City, now a key life-saving facility in the north of the enclave, are struggling to manage the influx of patients as a growing number of injured individuals have been brought to the hospital over the past few days. The situation highlights the urgent need for expanded capacities to accommodate injured Palestinians and support medical staff in the Gaza Strip. However, many medical resources had already remained critically insufficient due to an 18-year-long Israeli blockade and 17 months of fighting before the renewed Israeli strikes. "We often face a shortage of vital signs monitoring devices and electrocardiography (ECG) machines. There is a severe shortage of hospital beds, especially in emergency and intensive care units. Our hospital has only three ICU beds, and we desperately need expansion, as patients are forced to stay in hallways between departments due to the lack of available rooms," said Dr. Ahmed Mohsen, a surgeon at Mamadani Hospital. "Since the beginning of the war, Israel has been targeting hospitals, destroying a large part of them and cutting off the fuel needed to keep them running. We are suffering from a severe shortage of medications, including anesthesia drugs and medicines for chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes," said a Palestinian patient named Ali Al-Fais.
