This is the terrifying moment a wedding in Cambodia was wrecked by a sudden storm.

The newlyweds and their guests were forced to flee as powerful winds battered the reception tents in Phnom Kuy, Pailin, on March 16.

Footage shows massive canopies collapsing, with cable wires dangling and violently shaking in the air.

Guests can be seen sprinting out of the marquee, while others help elderly attendees to safety inside a nearby building.

Tables, chairs, and food were strewn across the venue.

Despite wedding mantras being chanted on the first day of the ceremony, the event was ultimately overpowered by the fierce storm.

Mr Naeng Khon, head of Phnom Kuy village, said: 'It suddenly rained and blew heavily, destroying the wedding hall. The bride and groom, monks, priests, and other attendees ran away, but no one was injured.'

Cambodia is often battered by tropical storms during the monsoon season from May to October. They typically form in the South China Sea or the Pacific Ocean and move westward, bringing heavy rain, strong winds, and flooding.

A tropical storm is a weather system with wind speeds ranging from 63 to 118 km/h (39 to 73 mph), forming over warm ocean waters. While less intense than a hurricane or typhoon, it can still cause significant damage.
