A powerful storm left dozens of vehicles submerged in floods across Texas.

Authorities reported that the thunderstorm began on Wednesday, followed by heavy downpours on Thursday afternoon and evening, continuing until Friday, March 28.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued several flash flood emergency warnings on Thursday and overnight for South McAllen and Harlingen, both located in the southernmost part of the Rio Grande Valley.

Dramatic footage shows abandoned vehicles engulfed in floodwaters in McAllen.

The Texas Department of Transportation issued a notice, reporting significant impacts on the westbound I-2 frontage road between 2nd Street and FM 494.

Dozens of water rescues were conducted due to the flash flooding.

At least three people have been confirmed dead following the freak weather. Officials said the deaths occurred in Hidalgo County.

The NWS reported that the region received between 6 and 12 inches of rain, with some areas receiving more. McAllen recorded over 6 inches, while more than 14 inches were registered at the Valley International Airport in Harlingen.
