An immature Canadian tourist in a baseball cap was fined for spray-painting power boxes in Thailand.

John Gordon, 54, reportedly defaced the public property with his 'tag' before he was arrested in the colourful coastal town of Pattaya on March 29.

Footage shows the holidaymaker appearing before police while wearing a gaudy panda-print shirt and a red cap tipped to the side.

Officers ordered John to the remove the teenage accessory while they grilled the him over the alleged vandalism.

However, he could only offer apologies, saying: 'I don't know what to say. Forgive me.'

John was later hauled back to the scene to repaint the power boxes.

Police Colonel Anek Srathongyu, superintendent of the Pattaya City Police Station, said: 'The Canadian man was fined 5,000 baht (around 110) and taken to Pattaya City Police Station, where a report was filed. We intend to take legal action against him to deter other tourists from engaging in similar behaviour.'

On February 6, Chinese tourist He Ma, 33, was arrested for allegedly vandalising a shop in Chiang Mai province in northern Thailand.

He was captured on CCTV spray-painting cartoons and Chinese characters on the shutter doors of a pharmacy. He was later detained by police and charged with damage to property, which carries a penalty of up to three years in prison, a maximum fine of 60,000 baht (1,400 GBP), or both, under Section 358 of the Thai Criminal Code.

Former fishing village Pattaya became popular with American troops on 'rest and relaxation' breaks in the 1950s and 1960s when the U.S. military had bases in Thailand while fighting Communism in Vietnam. Rural families are said to have even dressed their sons as women to cash in on the gold rush.

The handful of bars in the coastal town quickly grew and it is now the world's biggest sex holiday destination, with round-the-clock prostitution and drugs - a modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah rife with crime and debauchery.

Government chiefs have attempted to clean up the city but regular violence, depravity and claims of corruption continue to blight its reputation.
