VARIOUS OF CLOSED SHOPS, QUIET STREET, PEOPLE PASSING BY JERUSALEM - APRIL 7: Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem observed a general strike on Monday, April 7, to protest the ongoing and intense Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip. Shops in the Old City of East Jerusalem remained shuttered, and the usually bustling streets were notably quiet as residents joined the strike in a show of solidarity with Gaza. The strike was also widely observed across all towns and cities in the occupied West Bank. In a unified stance, public institutions, private sector businesses, transportation services, schools, and banks closed their doors for the day. Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, Israeli forces and illegal settlers have intensified attacks across the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, killing 945 Palestinians, injuring around 7,000, and arresting over 15,800, according to official Palestinian figures. The International Court of Justice declared Israel’s longstanding occupation of Palestinian territories illegal in July.
