This is the astonishing moment a monkey hitched a ride on a car bonnet in Malaysia.

Salamiah Binti Mupit was driving on the road when the mischievous primate jumped onto the vehicle in Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur.

Footage shows the macaque lounging on the windscreen as the driver navigates the highway on March 25.

The car owner recalled having to drive at a speed of 80 km/h to reach the Taman Tun Dr Ismail Fire Station, seeking help to remove the animal.

Officials reportedly took the monkey and released it back into the forest.

The monkey did not sustain any injuries during the encounter.

Salamiah said: 'I was heading home when the monkey leaped onto my car and refused to get off, even though many people were trying to chase it away.'
