The tragic incident occurred at around 12.44am during a live performance by merengue singer Rubby Perez at the Jet Set venue in Santo Domingo. Authorities have confirmed that at least 90 people have been taken to a local hospital in the Dominican capital. Emergency services are continuing to search for survivors and assist the injured. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
