Fire Island, United States - September 24, 2025 Early Wednesday morning, two recreational boats collided roughly 17 miles offshore of Fire Island at around 6 a.m., prompting a swift response from the U.S. Coast Guard Station Fire Island and the New York City Police Department. The crash involved a 31-foot center console vessel named Birthcontrol, carrying two passengers, and a 29-foot gray Ocean Runner called Jennap. One man was thrown from Jennap and sustained a broken rib and a laceration. Coast Guard divers rescued the injured man from the water. An NYPD helicopter medevacked him to Nassau University Medical Center at 7:15 a.m. He was reported in serious but stable condition and remained stable 24 hours after the incident. Water was pumped from both damaged vessels, which were then towed back to the Fire Island station. EMS crews assisted the three other passengers, but no further injuries were reported. NYPD commented on the rescue: “When the USCG radioed the NYPD for assistance for a boat accident, NYPD Special Ops Air Sea and Rescue Team jumped into action. A victim was safely removed from the water and transported to a local hospital.”
