China: Humanoid robots make major strides in China
[Voiceover] China's humanoid robots have been evolving at an unprecedented pace, with breakthroughs in motion control and intelligent algorithms from tech firms around the country. Humanoid robots have been seen performing somersaults, continuous backflips and even side flips, pushing the boundaries of what's physically possible for bipedal machines. One humanoid robot start-up, meanwhile, has introduced a model with a soft exterior shell rather than the standard metallic. It can run errands, perform basic sewing tasks, and engage in natural conversation. During a live demonstration, the robot was asked to observe and describe a journalist in front of it. It correctly identified the person's activity, clothing colors, and even estimated her age. According to the company's co-founder, the robot's multimodal large language model gives it a millisecond-level interaction response time. [Soundbite] Peng Zhihui, Co-founder, Agibot: "You might have used AI tools like DeepSeek, and noticed that it takes a while to generate a conversation. The innovation in our model is that with DeepSeek, you input text and get text output, which then gets converted to speech, but what we've done is go straight from speech to speech, skipping all the intermediate steps. We've also made a lot of engineering optimizations, which is why our model can achieve millisecond-level interaction responses." [Voiceover] Official data shows that as of December of last year, there were more than 450,000 intelligent robotics enterprises in China, with a total registered capital of more than 880 billion U.S. dollars.
