Two Chinese tourists were arrested for allegedly stealing cash from passengers' luggage on a flight to Thailand.

The male holidaymakers, Han, 54, and Wang, 46, reportedly opened bags in the overhead compartment to take money from other tourists on April 10.

They were detained at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Samut Prakan after a passenger Tang, 45, reported to the cabin crew that 30,000 Baht (660 GBP) was missing from his bag.

Staff said the Chinese men were seen 'acting suspiciously' on the plane.

Upon being questioned, Wang reportedly panicked and dropped the stolen cash on the floor, begging the crew not to report them.

Footage shows the pair being escorted by officers to the station for interrogation.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Seksan Thiraruangrat said: 'During the arrest, both suspects still denied all of their charges. They were charged with theft on a vehicle.

‘Witnesses on the plane were questioned, and all of the stolen items were returned to their owners.'

Tang said an American passenger Ruggles, 67, had noticed a Chinese man rifling through his backpack during the flight. The suspect was seen taking out a plastic bag before quietly returning to his seat.

Another passenger, Ding, 29, who had been sitting next to one of the suspects on the same flight from Macau, said she had also lost 50,000 Baht (1,100 GBP). She claimed she only noticed she was missing money upon checking in at her hote.

Authorities said both Han and Wang were flagged as high-risk individuals on a police database for suspected in-flight thefts.

The Chinese men were detained to face legal charges.
