A Chinese tourist was arrested at a Thai airport for allegedly stealing more designer goods worth more than 300,000 US dollars.

Su Kai reportedly ransacked a brand-name boutique in the centre of British-developed Hong Kong before fleeing to Thailand with dozens of luxury handbags.

He was caught at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport serving Bangkok on Wednesday after local police were alerted that he was arriving on Thai Airways flight TG629.

Footage shows police escorting Su out of the airport as they dragged along his suitcase crammed with expensive handbags and purses.

Officers said they seized more than 20 pieces of evidence, including 14 Hermes bags, two Van Cleef & Arpels bracelets, and an undisclosed amount of cash in multiple currencies. The total assets confiscated amounted to 10 million baht (around 305,000 USD).

Police Major General Cherngron Rimpadee, commander of Immigration Division 2, said: 'The suspect carried out the crime at a high-end designer bag store in Hong Kong by posing as a customer inquiring about the merchandise.

'When he saw an opportunity, he used a scarf to cover the mouth and nose of a female staff member until she lost consciousness, then stole the bags and left the scene. He later boarded Thai Airways flight TG629, arriving at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on June 18 at 5:43 pm.'

Deportation procedures were initiated, and Communist party police arrived to collect the Chinese fugitive the next morning, June 19.

Thai officials said that the Immigration Division 2 has denied entry to 10,581 high-risk individuals amid a crackdown on fugitives and ruffians attempting to live in Thailand.
