VARIOUS OF MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT LEAVING SESSION PRISTINA, KOSOVO - APR. 15: The inaugural session of Kosovo's newly elected parliament, scheduled for February 9, was cancelled due to disagreements between political parties. The session started at noon, when the newly elected MPs were expected to be sworn in. As part of the parliamentary procedure, a temporary committee was set up to verify the quorum and the mandates of the elected MPs. The committee issued a report confirming the validity of the process. However, members of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Serb List and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) objected to the report. They argued that Prime Minister Albin Kurti and his cabinet ministers should first resign from their executive positions before taking their oath as MPs. Despite being put to the vote twice, the report failed to pass. Following the deadlock, the acting Speaker announced the cancellation of the session and said that further steps would be discussed in consultation with the President. Prime Minister Kurti responded by accusing the opposing parties of undermining the Republic of Kosovo and attacking the democratic electoral process.
