This is the dramatic moment the US Coast Guard rescued survivors from a capsized boat off the coast of Florida.

Coast Guard Air Station Miami retrieved four individuals stranded at sea after their vessel overturned on April 13.

Martin County Fire Rescue reported that nine people were aboard the 25ft boat that departed from Bimini Island, Bahamas, on April 11 when it capsized about 29 miles off St. Lucie Inlet.

Aerial footage shows two survivors clinging to the hull of the overturned watercraft, while two others float nearby in the water.

The aircrew can be seen lowering a rescue basket to retrieve the survivors, who were later transported to Cleveland Clinic Martin South Hospital in Stuart.

The search for the remaining five missing individuals was later suspended.

Chief Warrant Officer Edgardo Insignares said: 'The decision to suspend a search is always difficult and never taken lightly.

'Smugglers routinely exploit vulnerable migrants for profit while putting their lives at risk aboard overloaded and unseaworthy vessels. These dangerous and illegal voyages must not be attempted. Safe, legal, and orderly migration saves lives. Don't take to the sea.'
