A woman surprised her grandmother by wearing her wedding dress to her own wedding - 62 years later.

Chrissie Mellett, 29, took her Grammy Patricia Lynch, 83, by complete surprise when she wore her vintage dress to her own church ceremony on April 5.

When planning their wedding Chrissie and her now-husband Chris Allingham, 30, chose to have a small ceremony with just 15 guests ahead of a bigger reception later.

It was then that Chrissie decided she wanted to wear her grandmother's dress.

Chrissie kept it a secret until the big day and was able to capture her Grammy and Poppy's heartwarming reactions.

Chrissie, a recruitment consultant in Hoboken, New Jersey, said: "It was a very special moment for all of us. "

"You can see in the video that my Grammy takes a moment to even process what she's seeing."

"She told me after the ceremony that the dress means even more to her now, after seeing it on me, than it did when she wore it at just 21."

Chrissie and Chris met in high school but didn't start dating until their sophomore year of college in 2015.

The couple got engaged in October 2023 and began to plan the wedding.

Chrissie had already picked a dress for their large reception but when the couple decided to have a more intimate church ceremony, she wanted something different.

The idea to wear her grandmother's dress came after Chrissie, her mother, sister and Grammy recently took it out of storage to reminisce.

Once the decision was made, Chrissie enlisted the help of her mother and sister.

Chrissie said: "The dress had been kept at my mum's house so I knew I needed her involved to get it."

"My sister has been helping plan the wedding so when I told her, she loved the idea."

The dress, which remained boxed up for more than 60 years, had to be to tailored to fit Chrissie.

Chrissie said: "I had to go to a tailor to see if we could make it work without compromising the integrity of the dress"

"Luckily, they were able to make just a few minor adjustments and after that, we knew we were all set!"

Patricia and her husband Dennis Lynch, 83, married on April 20, 1963, and have been happily together for 62 years.

Chrissie's Poppy Denis became very emotional when he saw his granddaughter wearing the dress.

Chrissie said: "My Poppy had a heart attack when he was just 39, and doctors didn't expect him to live a long life "

"So this moment not only brought back memories from his own wedding, but I think it made him emotional to still be here, witnessing this. "

"It was truly very special for our entire family."
