This is the moment tourists fled as a summer storm lashed a dam in northern Thailand.

The holidaymakers were paddling on rafts across the Mae Suai Dam when heavy wind and rain tore pummeled the tourist spot in Chiang Rai, on April 17.

Footage shows visitors running back to their cars as the storm blew through tents.

Local rescue volunteers were called to the scene after several tourists were injured from falling objects that hit their heads.

The Thai Meteorological Department today, April 21, warned of extremely high temperatures, isolated thunderstorms, and gusty winds in northern Thailand.

The agency said the weather conditions were caused by a low-pressure system caused by heat, and southerly and southwesterly winds blowing across the region.
