Roads were flooded after a tropical storm lashed Pattaya, Thailand on Tuesday.

The monsoon rains beat down on the 'Sin City' tourist destination in Chonburi province on June 21, leaving motorists struggling to drive through swamped streets.

Locals preemptively evacuated their belongings to higher ground after authorities forecasted heavy downpours to raise the water level.

The flood eventually receded once the rain stopped. Resident Pinyada Phiroonrat said: 'I haven't slept because I was afraid the house would be flooded. I moved my car to escape the water.'

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.

Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
