Recently, multiple “AI hair-washing salons” have appeared in Guangzhou, Guangdong, offering customers smart, fully automated hair care services through advanced machines.

At one such salon located on Tiyu West Road in the city’s Tianhe District, customers lie on a massage bed and can choose from various modes, including quick wash, standard, extended, rinse-only, or nourishing treatment. The system offers three levels of pressure—low, medium, and high—and allows users to select between long or short hair modes depending on their hair length. Using infrared sensors to locate the head, along with multi-angle water jets, the machine can complete the entire washing process in about 13 minutes. It can also operate 24/7.

The average cost at these AI hair-washing salons is around 19 yuan (approx. $2.60 USD), making it more affordable compared to traditional salons, where a wash typically costs 30–50 yuan. According to group-buying platforms, there are currently 11 salons in Guangzhou offering this AI-powered service.

Customers who have tried it say the water pressure and cleanliness are fully satisfactory. The automatic massage function helps them feel relaxed while lying down. Many expressed hope that this technology will eventually become available for home use, adding more convenience to daily life.

Consumers praised the service as “high-tech” and “well-suited for fast-paced lifestyles.” However, some noted that while the experience was novel, it lacked the personal touch of traditional head massages and scalp scratching. There's still room for improvement in terms of personalised service.
