Oscar-winning actress and climate activist Jane Fonda criticized the US government's absence from the ongoing Global Ocean Treaty negotiations and urged global leaders to stand united in the fight against environmental destruction. “This is an historic moment when the world shows cooperation over conflict, soil science over silence, and unity over unilateralism,” Fonda said, lamenting that “the United States government is not here… Their chair is empty.” Despite the US absence, Fonda praised the international effort. “Countries from all over the world are still working hard to protect nature and create unity instead of division,” she noted, thanking environmental organizations like Greenpeace for continuing to give her hope. Fonda delivered a fierce call for resistance: “We are not powerless. We are stronger than they want us to believe. And we will not be silenced.” She warned of the growing threat of deep-sea mining and condemned what she described as President Trump's alliance with the fossil fuel industry. “He’s on the side of death.
